Church Weekend Away at Avon Tyrrell

Friday 15 - Sunday 17 September 2017 at Avon Tyrell in the New Forest, BH23 8EE

Bookings have now closed for this event. For those who are attending, we are looking forward to you joining us for our first Church Weekend focusing on the roots of our vision tree (the roots are who we're called to be as a church).

Programme and event details [Members Area]

The weekend is aimed at growing us as disciples and as a grace-filled community. Everyone who sees Highfield as their spiritual home is welcome to join us. We're hoping it will be both a wonderful end to the Summer and a great beginning to the Autumn.

The event will involve teaching and worship for adults, children and young people at different venues, as well as lots of time to relax, explore the site, use its facilities and enjoy being together.

We've tried to make it possible for everyone to come. Avon Tyrrell, the venue, is flexible enough to offer a range of accommodation and prices (from staying full-board in the house through to self-catering camping). As it's just 45 minutes away, it's even possible to come for the day if you'd prefer.

What's On?

We're really pleased that John and Anne Coles have accepted our invitation to come and speak at our first church weekend away. They will be leading our adult morning and evening sessions in the main marquee. As well as superb bible teaching there will also be opportunities for extended worship and prayer every day. John led the New Wine movement from 2001-2014 and continues to be involved in teaching and training church leaders with New Wine's DNA. Anne oversees New Wine's ministry for women. She leads a house church with John and has a passion for ministry.

The weekend provides a great opportunity to get to know each other and enjoy the fresh air and scenery of the New Forest at the end of the Summer. There will be social events throughout the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, guests are free to explore the area and/or participate in one of the many on-site activities e.g. cycling or rambling via the Avon Tyrrell trails. There is a playground for younger children. We also have exclusive use of the outdoor heated pool with qualified lifeguards. Indoor activities will include craft, for example: book-art, painting watercolours, knitting, board games or just relaxing with a newspaper.

At extra cost on Saturday afternoon, Avon Tyrrell has an extensive range of instructor-led pursuits, including zip-wire, tree climbing, kayaking and more. You can also hire a bike, tennis court or 5-a-side pitch. Please book these directly via Avon Tyrrell in the 1.45 or 3.30pm activity sessions. For more information about all the activities available, click here.

'All In' Children & Young People Sessions

We will be exploring with the children and young people what Jesus' call to "follow me" means. We will be asking, "Have you gone all in with Jesus?" To be all in as a follower involves belonging to Jesus' family, the church! You are the church! To be all in we need to go all out! Our children and young people's programme will be based around an Avon Tyrrell instructor led activity+ each morning, and our teaching will challenge the children, in their age groups, to discover more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

The morning will look a bit like this:

9.15am drop off and register your children

9.15 - 9.45am teaching e.g. Who is Jesus and how do we find him?

9.45 - 10.00am re-locate to activity area

10.00 -11.30am instructor led activity

11.30 - 11.45am back to groups and refreshments

11.45 -12.15pm debrief, learning discussion and prayer

We look forward to having fun with the young people and experiencing Jesus together!

+Activities will be allocated from the following list (age appropriate): bushcraft, treasure hunt, orienteering, high ropes, shelter building, animal orienteering, discovery walk, archery, low ropes, adventure course, pioneering and zip wire
